Microsoft Readies Double Screen E-Reader

While Apple’s upcoming iPad has sucked up all the tablet oxygen in comic book circles, behind the scenes arch rival Microsoft is readying their own E-reader, The Courier. What differentiates the Courier from the iPad is that it’s hinged and opens like a book, offering two screens. When closed it weighs less than the iPad and is only 5 x 7″. Besides the touch screens the device comes with a stylus and will offer handwriting recognition and drawing capabilities.
No prices yet, but Endgadget is predicting a late 2010 launch.

“Late 2010″? Right. Does 2012 count as late 2010? So far, we’ve seen two computer animated concept imaginings and not a whiff of the software or hardware actually needed for such.
Microsoft’s past is peppered with “announced” products which never see the light of day. More likely, it is nothing more than something intended to capture “ideaspace”, to give people something to talk about other than the iPad and the HP Slate and such. And for a certain segment, something to catch them into that trap of “Don’t buy the real product, wait for the promised next one which will really be better than sliced bread.”
I could be wrong. It could be out for Christmas. (Anyone want to check my pants for pig sightings in late October?)
