Hamas Escalates Toon War
Since a Dutch newspaper printed irreverent drawings of the Prophet Mohammed cartoons have been front and center in the Middle East conflict. Now Hamas has escalated its toon propaganda war by releasing a sophisticated animated cartoon taunting Israel over captured prisoner Gilad Schalit. Schalit has been held by Hamas for six years. The cartoon depicts Schalit’s father growing old as he waits for his son’s return through numerous Israeli administrations. Finally his son is returned ina coffin.
Hamas’ armed wing, which posted the video, said it was intended to pressure Israelis to accept demands for a prisoner swap and warns the Israeli government it could regret not making a deal quickly.
