Take A Look Inside The First Issue Of Image’s Shirtless Bear Fighter

 
If somehow you haven’t yet heard of Shirtless Bear Fighter, an upcoming series from Image Comics, then let this be your wakeup call. Not only is it a real comic, but it’s getting rave reactions from comic creators who have read it, praising it for bringing the fun back to comics.

The series is written by Jody LeHeup (former editor of Uncanny X-Force, Deadpool, Quantum and Woody) and Sebastian Girner (editor of  Southern Bastards, Deadly Class, Black Science), drawn by newcomer Nil Vendrell, colored by Mike Spicer (Head Lopper, Mythic ), and lettered by Dave Lanphear.

Described as a “tall tale for the ages”, Shirtless Bear Fighter tells the story of a man “betrayed by the bears that raised him”, who wanders the forest he’s sworn to protect, meanwhile “fist-fighting bears, eating flapjacks, and being the angriest man the world has ever known”.  But his idyllic forest bear-fighting will soon be changed for a more metropolitan setting when “wild-eyed, super-strong bears attack the citizens of Major City”.

Our character, actually called “Shirtless” ventures into the human world to “do what he does best…PUNCH THOSE BEARS IN THE FACE!” And yet, the story has some complications since “someone is manipulating Shirtless”, and he has to face his past before he can “save his future”.
Consciously billed as an “over-the-top action/comedy chock full of humor, colorful characters, larger-than-life battles, and high adventure”, the series is also about “what happens when we allow anger to rule our lives, and what we can do to set things right”, according to Image.
The series is being hashtagged as the #WarOnBearror. Yep.
