Hard Sci-Fi Golgotha Arrives In October from Top Cow
by James Ferguson
After a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, the realistic science fiction graphic novel Golgotha is heading to comic shops this October from Top Cow Productions and Image Comics. The book is co-written by Matt Hawkins and Bryan Hill and illustrated by Yuki Saeki. I backed the Kickstarter and I’m currently in the middle of reading Golgotha.
The original graphic novel is set in the near future where a group of scientists and military operatives are sent into space to develop Earth’s first off-world colony. While they’re hibernating during the trip, technology back home continues to advance, so much so that when they land, the crew finds that the colony has already been started. Another team was sent after them and got there before them. Now they’re relics of their own time, unwanted by this new generation of colonists.
Co-writer Matt Hawkins saya:
Golgotha combines my obsession with religion and science fiction, and was a fun project to do. Bryan Hill and I always looked at this as a kind of Apocalypse Now meets 2001 mash-up.
Artist Yuki Saeki adds:
Golgotha is the most hardcore science fiction story I’ve worked on. It’s packed with action and mystery. I had fun drawing it.
Golgotha is set for release in comic shops on Wednesday, October 25th and in bookstores on Tuesday, October 31st. The final order cutoff deadline for comic retailers is Monday, September 25th. It is currently available for pre-order.
