Preacher continues to add to its array of screwed up characters for its third season.
Deadline reports Adam Croasdell will appear as Eccarius, a 350-year-old vampire who “styles himself after the more romantic, Gothic images of vampires,” but hides a darker motive beneath the regal facade. In the comic book, the character becomes Cassidy’s apprentice, but the older vampire finds Eccarius desires too mundane to put up with. It remains to be seen if the television version will follow in its comic book footsteps.
Prema Cruz will also appear as Madame Boyd, a woman who is is “taking the family business into the modern age.” The character appears to be original to the television show, but may yet have some comic book connection.
And speaking of comic book connections, the Grail’s Allfather D’Aronique will be played by Jonny Coyne. The character is Herr Starr’s superior and if things go they way they did in the comic book, the Allfather watches over the Grail’s terrible secret. When Starr himself learned the truth, it further cracked his psyche and left him the nominal leader of the Grail. I’ll be surprised if the show actually pulls off this storyline considering the nature of the secret.
In addition to the on-going threat of the Grail, Jesse will face his grandmother (Betty Buckley) and learn more about his mother’s childhood while his quest to find God takes one of its darkest detours.
