SDCC 2018: Green Lantern Relaunches With Grant Morrison & Liam Sharp
by James Ferguson
As much as I love the current Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps series, I have to admit that this announcement has more rather excited. As revealed on IGN, DC Comics has announced the series is getting relaunched this November as Green Lantern, written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Liam Sharp. This time around, Hal Jordan is being taken back to his roots as a space cop.
Morrison told IGN:
Instead of the big, epic, 12-part stories, we’re focusing down on the everyday life of a space cop. Basically, it’s no more apocalypse-ending storylines. The basic concept is that [Hal Jordan] is like a space cop that patrols a sector of the universe where anything can happen. We’ve made it more like a police procedural.
I’ve long lamented that Green Lantern hasn’t appeared in any of the DC shows on The CW, even throwing out theories of how Hal Jordan could get in there. They’ve mentioned Ferris Air and a missing pilot too! The idea of an ongoing space cop story with different cases each week sounds pretty cool. This is what I was hoping for.
The first arc of the relaunched Green Lantern picks up with Hal finding another Green Lantern’s ship crash landing on Earth. This was a prison transport, taking three of the universe’s greatest criminals to trial. They’re now loose on Earth so Hal has to hunt them down.
Green Lantern #1 is set for release in November 2018.
