Lex Luthor To Tussle With Supergirl In Season 4
by Erik Amaya
While many fans of Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) fear the fourth season of Supergirl will see the character break bad, her villainous brother will give Kara (Melissa Benoist) a bigger headache first.
TVLine reports Lex Luthor will have a recurring role later this season. The part has not yet been cast, but executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said in a statement they are “beyond excited to introduce” the character into the mix, adding, “We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since it’s inception and we’re excited to have him finally arrive. We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister Lena Luthor.”
And though the Luthor siblings have had a contentious relationship, it’s always possible they’ll team up if Lena goes bad.
In the mythology of the series, Lex has been Superman’s (Tyler Hoechlin) archnemesis for some time. The Man of Steel finally put him behind bars prior to the first season, after which Lena took over the family business and re-dubbed it “L-Corp” to get away from the family associations. But the bloodline runs deep with her mother Lillian (Brenda Strong) running anti-alien group Cadmus and Lex himself always calling out Superman for his alien origins. Perhaps Lex is the real power behind Agent Liberty. The presence of his underlings Mercy (Rhona Mitra) and Otis (Robert Baker) certainly suggest the connection.
The producers stressed Lex will not appear in the December “Elseworlds” crossover, so expect him to make a first appearance the following episode or just after the winter break.
Supergirl airs Sundays on The CW.
