Facing Love And Loss: A First Look At Ingrid Chabbert’s Graphic Novel Debut, Waves

by James Ferguson

This May sees the release of Waves, an original graphic novel delving into one woman’s exploration of pain and loss from Boom! Studios. It’s based on author Ingrid Chabbert’s own personal experiences trying to conceive. The comic features artwork from Carole Maurel.

Waves follows a young woman and her wife who are finally able to announce their pregnancy after years of difficulty trying to have children. Unfortunately, this joyous period of their lives becomes one filled with unexpected heartbreak. They drown in an ocean of sorrow following their loss and begin a journey of renewal and hope as they learn to live and love again.
Executive Editor Sierra Hahn says:

Chabbert and Maurel create a very real portrait of grief as Waves delves straight into the heart of the struggle of dealing with death. There are moments of intense mourning intertwined with scenes of quiet, tender love and caring as the two young women navigate their life after loss.

Waves will be published under Boom! Studios’ Archaia imprint alongside other graphic novels likes Mouse Guard, New World, and About Betty’s Boob. It’s set for release on May 1st, 2019 at your local comic shop and May 7th, 2019 at bookstores and Amazon.
