Boom! Studios Reveals Next Lumberjanes Original Graphic Novel

Earlier this year, Boom! Studios release the first original graphic novel from the Lumberjanes comic in The Infernal Compass. It was an incredible comic that allowed writer Lilah Sturges and artist Polterink to more deeply explore the characters and their relationships. This November, the team is getting back together for another adventure with Lumberjanes: The Shape of Friendship.

This time around, the girls of the Roanoke cabin are up to their usual tricks, making trouble and making friends. Their travels bring them deep into the woods where they find the hiding place of a group of magical creatures known as Pookas. They’re delighted to meet these little guys, but what they don’t know is that these magical beings are actually master shapeshifters just itching for a chance to see what human life is all about.

The Pookas decide to try out life in the Lumberjanes’ shoes and end up turning Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types upside down. Mal, Ripley, Molly, April, and Joe will have to work together to reclaim their lives and teach the Pookas that sometimes your best self is your true self.

Writer Lilah Sturges says:

Writing the Lumberjanes has been the most fun I’ve ever had writing comics, and I’m really excited for The Shape of Friendship! It’s such a fun, sweet story with lots of action and laughs, but also lots of feelings, too. In this book, we get to focus on April and Jo’s friendship, and I’m especially excited to write about those two; Jo is such an important character to me and I really want to do her justice!

I absolutely loved The Infernal Compass so it’s no surprise that I’m very much looking forward to The Shape of Friendship. If it’s anything like the first original graphic novel, it will be awesome.

I’m super excited to return to the Lumberjanes universe with this great story! It’s got more friendship, more shenanigans and more magical creatures, pretty much everything awesome you’ve come to expect from the series!

Lumberjanes is published under Boom! Studios’ Boom! Box imprint along with another favorite, Giant Days.
