Confirmed during Bandai’s Gundam 40th anniversary event, Bandai Namco has given us a brief look at one of their upcoming films that’s apart of their new “UC Next 0100″ project”, meant to usher in the new era of Universal Century storylines taking place in the second century of their continuity.
Based on a series of novels from Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino, Hathaway’s Flash is set in UC0105, long after the second Neo Zeon War featured in Char’s Counterattack. The novels follow a battle between Bright Noa’s son Hathaway, now the leader of a terrorist organization known as Mufti, and the Earth Federation’s Circe Unit, led by Lane Aime. Hathaway pits his RX-105 Ξ Gundam against Lane’s RX-104FF Penelope, as Mufti seeks revenge on the Earth Federation Forces.
Hathaway’s ending is a bit grim, even for Gundam, so it remains to be seen whether or not they change how the events of this series unfold. But that’s a long way away, as there’s no current date for this first Hathaway’s Flash film, only a loose target of next Winter/Q4 2019. Still, there’s plenty of Gundam between now and then to keep us busy, including the Unicorn sequel “Gundam Narrative”, which should find its way to Blu-ray soon.
