Diego Boneta To Star In El Gato Negro: Nocturnal Warrior TV Adaptation

by Erik Amaya

Richard Dominguez’s El Gato Negro: Nocturnal Warrior is coming to television.
Deadline reports MGM is developing a TV version of the comic book series with Rock of Ages‘s Diego Boneta set to star. In the comic book, first published in 1993, social worker Francisco “Pancho” Guerrero takes up his grandfather’s hero identity of “El Gato Negro” to push back against the forces of organized crime and costumed criminals in the South Texas region. It is unclear how much of this premise will be adapted into the program, as more traditional looks at superheroes are on the way out, but a prominent Latino hero is definitely something missing from the roster.
Boneta will also serve as an executive producer on the series alongside MGM Television. “I know that bringing this Latin superhero-led series to the screen is a great responsibility and a huge challenge,” said Boneta in a statement. “But I couldn’t have a better partner than MGM.”
The project is still looking to staff a showrunner and other key personnel and is not yet slated for release.
