80 Years Of The Bat: Original Batman Films Receive Theatrical & 4K UHD Releases
by Ben Martin
80 Years of The Bat is a column created to celebrate the 80th anniversary of one of the most beloved characters ever created, Batman. Since his creation in 1939, Batman has managed to transcend his native medium of comic books. Eight decades later, the character has a presence in every area of entertainment. Over that time, Batman has garnered generations of fans; thus, always remaining relevant. Throughout the remainder of 2019, 80 Years of The Bat will examine decades worth of Batman material from every medium. For this installment, I want to let you in on some Bativersary News!
Part of the excitement of a pop-culture icon’s anniversary is all the merchandise and special events that take place during such a time. For an occasion as monumental as Batman’s 80th anniversary, Warner Bros. and DC Comics have plenty of fun stuff coming down the Bat-Pole at us! Frankly, just keeping tabs on everything regarding The Dark Knight’s celebration of 80 years is making my wallet hurt. Unlike some folks in Gotham, I don’t have a Bat-credit card. Even so, WB and DC can take all my money when it comes to the original Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman Franchise!
It has been announced that Warner Bros., in collaboration with Fathom Events will be re-releasing the first four Bat-flicks on a LIMITED ENGAGEMENT basis throughout May! Not only will this event celebrate eight decades of The Caped Crusader; these screenings are also a celebration of the upcoming 30th Anniversary of Batman (1989)!

Speaking of 4K, Warners will also be releasing these four films on 4K Ultra HD for the first time this on Tuesday, June 4th! According to The WB Shop (https://www.wbshop.com), these individual releases will contain a 4K Ultra HD Disc, a Blu-Ray Disc, and a UHD Digital Code. These single releases have an MSRP of $24.99-$39.99 each, depending on your preferred retailer. Batman (1989) will also be receiving a Pop! Vinyl Combo set ($49.99) on Tuesday, June 28th! Now, if you’re like me and want all four films in a nice box set, you’ll have to wait a bit. But fear not, The Batman 4-Film 4K UHD Collection ($89.99) will be released on Tuesday, September 17th! From the artwork, it looks like the special features have been ported over from previous Blu-Ray releases.
Unfortunately, no artwork for The 4-Film Collection is available at this time. However, you can take a look at individual release artwork below-

Batman & Robin (4K UHD):
Despite the flaws of these original Batman flicks, they hold a special place in my heart. As such, I’m incredibly excited about these upcoming releases. Heck, the visual stylings of these four movies should make them worth a 4K upgrade alone!
