Fear The Reaper: Tom King Teases Animated Villain The Reaper’s Entry Into The DCU
by Olly MacNamee
Over on Twitter Tom King has dropped a Clay Mann promo – and surely a cover too – to the forthcoming Batman/Catwoman from DC Comics series that’ll see King complete his Batman run. And, he’s strongly hinting at the Reaper entering into the DCU proper. Well, not so much hinting, as revealing in this amazing piece of art below.
For those who are unaware of why fandom of a certain age are loosing it over this tease, then look no further than the much, much loved Batman: The Animated Series’ movie, Mask of the Phantasm from 1993 and while a flop at the cinemas (it was planned for a straight-to-video release, but favourable reviews caused Warner to decide to release it theatrically, although far, far too late to plan a successful marketing campaign) it became a hue cult favourite on video release. The Shawshank Redemption of the animated world. It was so popular that two direct-to-video standalone sequels, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero in 1998 and Mystery of the Batwoman in 2003 followed suit. And now, finally, DC Comics are finally cottoning on, after 26 years! That’s some wait to see this masked menace make it into mainstream comics. But, with this reveal, if Batman/Catwoman wasn’t already going to be a guaranteed hit, then it must be now.
Look out for Batman/Catwoman #1 in early 2020.
