This was inevitable.
Deadline reports The Rookie star Nathan Fillion will join the cast of The Suicide Squad in an undisclosed role. The Firefly vet is a member of director James Gunn’s stable of actors. He stared in Gunn’s Slither, appeared in Super, and lent his voice to a Guardians of the Galaxy creature. He also appeared in deleted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 material as Marvel Universe actor Simon Williams — aka Wonder Man. But the complete erasure of these scenes from the final film leaves Fillion’s MCU membership up in the air.
As for his DC Universe credential? We’ll go out on a limb here and suggest he will play Catman. Granted, we also said that would be a good part for Idris Elba now that he will not play Deadshot in the film. Honestly, either would be great as Thomas Blake.
Based on the DC Comics title, the film sees the return of Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney as Suicide Squad‘s Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang. Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman also reprise their roles as government minders Amanda Waller and Rick Flag, with David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, and Steve Agee taking on the parts of the Polka-Dot Man, the Ratcatcher, and King Shark. Flula Borg will also appear as a potential love interest for a member of the Squad.
The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6th, 2021.
