Tom Welling To Return As Clark Kent During “Crisis On Infinite Earths”

Cue that Smallville theme song.

TVLine reports Tom Welling will reprise his role as Clark Kent from the WB/CW program — which, in many ways, is the secret origin of the Arrowverse — during December’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. The story will apparently reveal where Clark has been since Smallville‘s conclusion. “For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville,” Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim said in a statement to the site. “Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths,’ our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent.”

Based on the legendary DC Comics crossover event by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the Arrowverse “Crisis” will see the casts of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and Batwoman assembling to challenge the threat of the Anti-Monitor (LaMonica Garret). The story will unfold across five of the six shows — Black Lightning will not be part of the crossover despite the presence of star Cress Williams and some of the program’s other characters in the crossover — and span the last week of The CW’s Fall season and the first week after the Winter break. It is a massive undertaking with special appearances from actors representing nearly every facet of DC TV history. And when it’s over, we’ll be left wondering how they can top it next year. Zero Hour, maybe?

The Arrowverse begins its new season on October 6th, but “Crisis” will begin on December 8th.
