Excalibur, one of six new X-Men series spinning out of House of X and Powers of X, launched this week. To celebrate, publisher Marvel Comics released a trailer featuring Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Senior Editor Jordan D. White, and writer Tini Howard, discussing the cross-dimensional caper.
This Excalibur is a new spin on an old favorite. It touches on the worlds of the fantastic and magic and still is rooted in the modern X-Men continuity of the present.
Excalibur begins with the Otherworld rocked by war. The sorceress Morgan le Fay has returned to Albion looking to take over the British Isles. A new Excalibur is formed by the new Captain Britain, Betsy Braddock. She’s joined by Rogue, Gambit, Rictor, Jubilee, and former X-foe Apocalypse to protect the realm for Queen and Country.
Writer Tini Howard added:
[Mutants] have the space and the freedom to develop their culture, to learn magic and art, and to make these things that mutantkind has never seen before. And not only do they get to revel in it, the rest of the world has to deal with it.
One of the things I love about the X-Men is how you can mix and match different characters to create the weirdest and most interesting teams. This is a perfect example of it. Excalibur #1 is available now at your local comic shop and digitally through ComiXology and Amazon Kindle.
