‘Doom Patrol’ Season 2 Trailer Reintroduces The Team To HBO Max Viewers

by Erik Amaya

While Doom Patrol will stream on both DC Universe and HBO Max, the latter streaming service needs to inform its viewers, who more than likely do not subscribe to the former, about the breakout DC Entertainment series based on the comic book devised by Arnold Drake, Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani. And introducing Cliff (Brendan Fraser), Rita (April Bowlby), Larry (Matt Bomer), Cyborg (Joivan Wade), and Jane (Diane Guerrero) is exactly what this first Season 2 trailer does. Sure, it offers some glimpses of new episodes, but first and foremost, it takes a brief look at the team, their morally ambiguous chief, Dr. Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton), and some of the things they learned in Season 1 — including Caulder’s real mission.

As with the first season, it looks like a lot of fun. Of course, Doom Patrol is also a shockingly emotionally resonant story thanks to its collection of oddball heroes, meta commentary, and fourth-wall breaking. We’re re-watching the first season right now and it continues to amaze us the amount of quality and fidelity to the source it manages to squeeze in. Like Swamp Thing, it feels like reading a 1990s Vertigo comic, but unlike that show, you can tell it has support from various parts of the WarnerMedia empire. Giving it a place of importance on HBO Max is one such vote of confidence. We hope it pays off.
Doom Patrol returns June 25th on DC Universe and HBO Max.
