Webcomic Weekly: Taking A Look At ‘Oh Joy Sex Toy’
by Richard Bruton
Webcomic Weekly – one webcomic every week – simple! And this week we’re going NSFW once more with one of the most progressive, sex-positive, and all-round brilliant webcomics out there – Oh Joy Sex Toy by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan.
It’s a webcomic where the title completely encapsulates everything about the webcomic – Joy and Sex Toys.
So yes, it’s an adult-ish site, featuring sexual images and sexual topics – but it’s so far from a NSFW porn webcomic as you could get.
Initially, Erika Moen and hubby Matthew put up reviews of the various sex toys they’d tried – her, him, solo and as a couple. But it soon became so much more than that. It swiftly became a wonderfully sex-positive webcomic that was as full of enlightenment and education as it was entertainment. It’s gone on to continue exploring the world of sex, relationships, and sex toys, bringing in more and more features, guest creators, resource guides, and so much more.
Sure, there have been collections of the content here and a new series of books about sex and relationships – including Drawn to Sex and their new book Let’s Talk About It: The Teen’s Guide to Sex, Relationships, and Being a Human comes out from Random House in January 2021.
But Moen and Nolan continue to make Oh Joy Sex Toy the biggest and best site they possibly can, just by continuing to deliver excellent comic strips with that delightful sex-positive, all-inclusive message.
All the way through, Moen talks about sex and makes it not just informative but funny, relevant, sexy, and entertaining. From the off, she was completely open about herself, Matthew, their relationship, their sexuality, and in doing so makes the reader completely relaxed and open to things. And that sense of openness and non-judgmental approach has continued, with each new contributor and guest bringing their own unique viewpoint, experiences, advice and joy to the site.
It’s a wonderfully put together site, with Moen at the reins, creatively and artistically, with her art in those lush pink hues, a lightweight cartoon style, vibrant and frankly joyous in the celebration of all things sexual.
There’s so much content by now, with a huge number of sex toy reviews for any and all tastes, plus a huge sex ed section with strips on health, sex & sexuality, how to guides, interviews, kinks, and of course, with the ever-growing number of guest strips from a number of different voices, we get even more of a diverse and interesting take on the enter world of sex, sexuality, relationships, sex toys, and so much more.
Oh Joy Sex Toy has always been a delight from the very start but now it’s definitely transformed into a delightful thing that’s also, perhaps more importantly, something immensely valuable in terms of sexual education.
Oh Joy Sex Toy by Erika Moen and Matthew Nolan is definitely someone you should head for – dip in and out, educate yourself, learn something new, answer some of your questions, and enjoy a wonderful webcomic.
