‘Batwoman’ To Feature A Spoiler This Sunday

by Erik Amaya

Really, the arrival of Cluemaster should’ve been our first, um, clue.

EW reports this Sunday’s episode of Batwoman will feature the first live action appearance of Stephanie Brown! The character, better known as The Spoiler, Robin, and Batgirl, debuted in a 1992 issue of Detective Comics by Chuck Dixon and Tom Lyle. There, she literally “spoiled” the crimes of her father, the Cluemaster, while befriending then-Robin Tim Drake. She would subsequently adopt The Spoiler as her hero identity. The two would eventually date for a time, but she became a fan favorite in her own right, replacing Tim as Robin — even though it cost her life for a time — and, later, becoming Batgirl. Changes to the Multiverse often sees her contributions to Batman lore erased, but she always finds her way back.

If you can’t tell, we’re stoked to see her guest on Batwoman.

Morgan Kohan plays Stephanie in a story which sees Cluemaster (Rick Miller) escape from prison and taunt Sophie (Meagan Tandy) with various clues to new crimes — one of which involves his daughter. And as EW teases, the story will see a bond form between Stephanie and Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson), a development which may lead to Stephanie returning next season.

And, really, keeping her on seems like the most natural thing for the program to do. Imagine a Bat Team comprised of Ryan (Javicia Leslie), Luke, Mary (Nicole Kang), Stephanie and Kate (Wallis Day). Heck, even Sophie would be welcome in that ensemble. It’s the sort of pivot we’re looking for and something that re-energizes our interest in the show.

Batwoman airs Sundays on The CW.
