While the Force War is still a few episodes from really heating up, it falls on Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) — with an assist from Cisco (Carlos Valdes) — to train Alexa (Sara Garcia) for the battle ahead. But learning to control elemental forces is no easy task, particularly when Alexa’s frustration can cause the Strength Force to go wild, as teased in this preview of next week’s show.
Meanwhile, we’re starting to see a number of endgames forming for the show. Cisco’s emotional journey this week has prepared him to leave town with Kamilla (Victoria Park) and even Harrison Wells’s (Tom Cavanagh) final contributions seemed to be teased as he revealed himself to be the thing he saw in the distance when the Forces were born. But beyond that, his line, “This is when it all began” suggests he knows about something else about to transpire.
Beyond that, though, the episode hits the old well of Barry blaming himself everything (although, it is his fault this time), planning to use time travel to prevent the thing he did, and discovering that Iris is his lightning rod. It’s just a little too repetitive as we just saw these character beats in the wrap-up to the Mirror Master story.
All that said, one repetitive note we’ll be happy to endorse is the Reverse-Flash masquerading as the Speed Force and taking the shape of Nora Allen (Michelle Harrison). At least, that final moment with the super speed hand suggests the Reverse-Flash — and with Cavanagh getting ready to depart Vancouver, it might be time to finish Eobard Thawne’s war with the Flash once and for all.
And, y’know, clear the way for Barry and Iris’s true children.
The Flash airs Tuesdays on The CW.
