In general, we like to avoid discussing rumors, since they can fall apart, and often only cause confusion amongst fans. However, some rumors are so solid they’re basically fact. Multiversus is supposedly a platform fighter (basically a Smash clone) that’s meant to have characters from all of Warner Bros. major properties, like Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. Multiversus was first rumored on Reddit’s GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, with people referring to it as NetherRealmStudios’ next project. Not long after that, Venture Beat reporter Jeff Grubb confirmed that the game did exist, but wasn’t being developed by NetherRealm.

Since then, a character screen has leaked courtesy of Smash Bros player/commentator Hungrybox. Normally, things like these aren’t trustworthy since they can easily be faked. But in the case of both Hungrybox’s YouTube and Twitter, the original media has been removed “in response to a report from the copyright holder”. There are many reasons this might happen, but ultimately Warner Bros isn’t wasting time on a fan-edit. Most likely, this is their way of saying “we’re not ready to show this off yet”. Ironically, in doing this they’ve essentially confirmed this game is real. (Separately, a design document has also found its way to the public, so the game is pretty much an open secret.)

So far the character list has shown off: Stephen Universe, Finn and Jake from Adventure Time, Batman, Harley Quinn, Superman, Wonder Woman, Gandalf, Rick, Morty, Tom & Jerry (a single character), Bugs Bunny, Shaggy, and an all-new character rumored to be named Rein. This roster is incomplete as other rumors have said Arya from Game of Thrones is in and other characters will be added as DLC (including potentially NBA super-star LeBron James), but the game is also rumored to be developed on a smaller budget and is intended to be F2P. Future characters will likely be sold as DLC, but considering Warner Bros there’s no shortage of characters that can be used.
