‘Andor’ Season 1, Episode 10 Review
by Frank Martin
Everyone whohas been watching Andor knew that this was coming. Cassian (Diego Luna) has been in prison for a couple episodes now, and given what the character is becoming, he wasn’t going to stay in there for long. The only question was how the escape would take place and who would be a part of it. With no one coming to Cassian’s rescue, he would have to save himself along with those in prison with him. Fortunately, the episode’s action did not disappoint and all of the other scenes further added to how the season may end.
Not surprisingly, the bulk of this episode took place in the prison as Cassian led the prison break and enacted his plan. Many of the prisoners died, but the scheme more or less worked as he and his foreman, Kino Loy (Andy Serkis), made their way to the control center, where Cassian encouraged Kino to make a speech inspiring all the prisoners to revolt. They were successful, and Cassian swam ashore while Kino revealed that he can’t swim. Meanwhile, Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) continued her efforts to raise money for the Rebellion while Luthan Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) is happy that the Empire is increasing their plans to close in around him.
While the first three story arcs played out in predictable fashion, it’s unclear what will remain for the rest of the season. It’s certainly possible that there will be a lull following this action-packed episode just as there had been in the past, but that may not happen. Instead, the tension and suspense may remain high as Cassian is still on the run following the prison break. There are also many character threads that were not even featured in this episode. So with two episodes left, there’s still a lot going on that needs to be resolved. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
Andor streams Wednesdays on Disney+.
