The Armored Core Series Returns With ‘Armored Core: Fires Of Rubicon’

by Sage Ashford

After nearly a decade, From Software is bringing the Armored Core series back with a new mainline title, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon. The last time anyone saw the Armored Core franchise was Armored Core: Verdict Day back in 2013. Basically, right before From Software became known for Souls-like titles.

Leaked earlier in the year in a series of watermarked images, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon made its official appearance at The Game Awards. Lead developer is Masaru Yamamura, who previously worked on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.  The Steam page talks more about the setting of the game:

“A mysterious new substance was discovered on the remote planet, Rubicon 3. As an energy source, this substance was expected to dramatically advance humanity’s technological and communications capabilities. Instead, this substance caused a catastrophe that engulfed the planet and the surrounding stars in flames and storms, forming a Burning Star System.

Almost half a century later, the same substance resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the catastrophe.

Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themself in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.”

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon launches on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles in 2023.
