‘Thunderbolts’ Enlists Steven Yeun
by Erik Amaya
The Thunderbolts roster is expanding.
Deadline reports The Walking Dead veteran Steven Yuen is joining the Marvel Studios’ production in an as-yet unnamed but key role. Many online are already speculating he will play genius and eventual awesome Hulk Amadeus Cho, but that cannot be confirmed at this time.
No matter his character’s identity, the film is poised to be one of the most interesting of Phase 5. In lieu of the Avengers, a group of ne’er-do-wells — including Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) — team up to … well, we’re still not sure. Considering Harrison Ford will appear as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) will be their minder, it’s possible the team is meant to be an Avengers directly acting on US interests. But as comic book readers know, the true power behind the initial team is Baron Zemo and they could go rogue (or, more rogue) at any moment.
One possibility we’ve also entertained is the notion that the Thunderbolts will fail utterly, forcing the remaining Avengers to regroup and recruit going into Phase 6.
Jake Schreier will direct the picture from a script by Eric Pearson. It is currently scheduled for release on July 26, 2024.
