Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams, will be launching an “original middle-grade fiction series based on Lumberjanes“, according to Andrew Smith, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Abrams Children’s Books. Fans of the best-selling Lumberjanes comics and collected editions may remember that Lumberjanes has already been optioned for the big screen, too. Smith also said that there are bigger multi-format plans for Lumberjanes, exploring “other formats that dive deeper into the world of Lumberjanes“.
An even bigger squee factor for fans will be the creative team behind these illustrated novels. They will be written by New York Times best-selling author and comic creator Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer, Supergirl) and illustrated by Brooke Allen, one of the original creators and illustrators of Lumberjanes.
Even more surprisingly, the publisher has announced that the first book will publish in October 2017 with the sizable first run of 150,000 copies.
Here’s the official description of the contents of the first book in the series:

In this new middle-grade series, readers are welcomed to Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. The five scouts of Roanoke cabin—Jo, April, Molly, Mal, and Ripley—love their summers at camp. They get to hang out with their best friends, earn Lumberjane scout badges, annoy their no-nonsense counselor Jen . . . and go on supernatural adventures. In the series opener, when the challenge-loving April leads the girls on a hike up the tallest mountain they’ve ever seen, things don’t go quite as planned. For one thing, the mountain might not be a mountain. Also, unicorns.

Smith further teased more announcements of partner projects between Abrams and Boom! Studios in the coming months.
