‘Glorious Golden Age Pulp’ – Dynamite’s Sheena #1 Will Arrive in September

by Staff

After launching new series Sheena with an introductory issue for 25 cents, Dynamite will be continuing the series with an issue #1 in September. We can expect the series to kick off on September 6th, featuring work by a number of creators including J. Scott Campbell.

Cover artists for Sheena #1 include not only J. Scott Campbell, but also Ryan Sook, Moritat, and Carli Ihde. Additional limited variant editions including “Black and White,” “Virgin,” and J. Scott Campbell’s “Jungle Green,” are available as retailer incentive.

Written by GLAAD-Nominated, and New York Times Best-selling author Marguerite Bennett (Batwoman, Animosity) and Christina Trujillo, and illustrated by Moritat (Hellblazer, Teen Titans), Sheena, Queen of the Jungle will be featured in an ongoing series.

Writer Marguerite Bennett says:

Our story is glorious golden age pulp — high adventure, quick wit, ancient mysteries, and daring dames — clashing with the perils of two worlds: one, the modern world come to conquer, and one, a world of dark supernatural mystery long forgotten, awoken to anger once more. This is a fast paced, action packed kick off to more exciting adventures for Sheena!

Christina Trujillo adds:

Sheena is strong, brave, and willing to bend the rules in order to do her duty and keep her home safe. I think fans will enjoy having Sheena as a guide while they unravel the mysteries of the forest.
Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, was the first female character in comics to have her own series, beginning in 1937. Created by Will Eisner and S. M. “Jerry” Iger, she was featured in 167 issues over the span of two decades. In this relaunch, Sheena pursues a mysterious invader that has come to spy on the Amazon’s ancient secrets. Following the path of the trespasser, she encounters a ruin in which deadly dangers await.

Sheena #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ July 2017 Previews catalog, and arrives in September.
