Savage Dragon Goes XXX Rated This July

Erik Larsen has always been one of the more cheekier and outspoken of the Image founders, as anyone reading Savage Dragon will all be too aware of. But, Larsen is now ramping up that cheekiness with the promise–or should that be threat–of a internet-breaking front cover for his anniversary issue No. 225 described as “a sexy, sultry XXX cover by Rafael Krás not for the faint of heart (and certainly NSFW)”. Whatever that means.
Larsen says:

Sometimes I do things just because it amuses me. Image has done a few NSFW covers of late, and while they certainly qualify as NSFW, they haven’t been especially raunchy. The thought of some reader unwrapping this from its plastic sheath and doing a spit-take makes me laugh.

Whether you are a regular Savage Dragon reader, or simply intrigued by this announcement, this issue will also be part of the bigger 25th anniversary of Image Comics and may well be worth picking up because of that. Or, the quality of the story within, maybe? Y’know, comics are for reading, right?

In “The Merging of Multiple Earths,” SAVAGE DRAGON boasts a giant-sized 25th anniversary special that fans won’t want to miss out on. The Dragon is restored to his former glory as he bulks up to take on Darklord in a final battle! Mr. Glum’s devious plot to merge the multiverse comes to its cataclysmic conclusion! Savage Dragon and Malcolm Dragon join forces to save Angel Murphy and the very Earth itself! 
And, if you do want to read it, you will need to rip open the poly bag that protects the blushes of both the readers and the retailers. Or, go buy another version of the cover that’s not as XXX rated. There are 4 to choose from.
Savage Dragon #225 will be available on Wednesday, July 26th. The final order cut-off from comics retailers will be Monday, July 3rd.
