Deadpool’s Brianna Hildebrand Joins The Exorcist In Its Second Season
by Erik Amaya
Brianna Hildebrand is making the leap from Deadpool to the Devil.
As Deadline reports, the actress, who made a splash as Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool, will join the season two cast of FOX’s sublime horror series, The Exorcist. The show follows Father Tomas Ortega (Alfonso Herrera) and seemingly defrocked priest Marcus Keane (Ben Daniels) as the battle the forces of Hell. Meanwhile, Keane’s old superior, Father Bennett (Kurt Egyiawan), struggles to discover a plot inside the Church. Though the first season saw them dealing with a violent possession in Ortega’s Chicago parish, year two sees them on the road. Their path leads to Seattle where former child psychologist Andrew Kim (John Cho) runs a group home for at-risk foster children. There, one of the kids living on Kim’s secluded private island exhibits the tell-tale signs of a possession.
Hildebrand will play one of the at-risk teens. Her character, Verity, is about to turn 18 and trying her best to hide her deep feelings for the younger children.
Though not the biggest ratings winner, The Exorcist‘s turned out to be the best horror series on broadcast television during its debut season. Herrera is a compelling lead backed by Daniel’s unpredictable mentor. From the beginning, the plan was to have the pair face a new case every season. But as the Chicago possession unfolded, it became clear that a secret society was in league with demons to corrupt the church; leading to an on-going storyline. And though the series re-introduced the Exorcist films’ lead demon Pazuzu, it’s unclear if his intentions have anything to do with the cabal.
Backed with genuine scares, shocking images and dynamic leads, it’s really worth the time to go back and watch it if you haven’t already.
The Exorcist returns for its second season in the Fall.
