Former Doctor Doom Julian McMahon Joins Hulu’s Runaways
by Erik Amaya
Ten years after he last played Doctor Doom, Julian McMahon is returning to the Marvel fold.
According to Variety, the actor will play a character called Jonah on Hulu’s Runaways; an adaptation of the Marvel comic book by the same name. The series focuses on a group of superpowered teens who discover their parents are part of a villainous league of would-be despots and master criminals. While Jonah does not appear to be a character from the comics, he is described as “a pivotal player in the main characters’ rebellion against their parents.” Which could mean anything from a Professor X type guide to a Doom-proxy interested in the kids for his own selfish ends.
McMahon may be familiar to audiences as Victor Von Doom if 20th Century Fox’s first attempt at a Fantastic Four franchise: 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He even rode the surfboard in an attempt to capture one of the most iconic images ever published by Marvel Comics. He is, perhaps, more fondly remembered for his role on FX’s Nip/Tuck and recently appeared on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency as a murdered time traveler.
The series, Marvel’s first for Hulu, is said to be connected to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, but as Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb told reporters recently, “How it’s connected and where it’s connected, it remains to be seen.”
Runaways comes to Hulu on November 21st.
