Michael Shannon Aims For Monster Status In The Shape Of Water Red Band Trailer

by Erik Amaya

Fox Searchlight has released a new red band trailer for the upcoming Guillermo del Toro film, The Shape of Water. It’s an intriguing look at the movie, offering further glimpses of the creature — or “asset” — played by del Toro mainstay Doug Jones. But it appears the real monster in the flick is Michael Shannon, who once again plays a man with obsessions that will destroy him.

Man, Shannon’s really good in these scenes. And this looks like the best Guillermo del Toro movie to date.
In the film, Sally Hawkins stars as Elisa, a mute woman whose routine at a hidden high-security government lab is disrupted when she and her friend Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a humanoid amphibian creature lurking in one of the tanks. It’s part of a dubious research project. And when she helps it escape, Elisa puts herself in the crosshairs of Shannon’s unhinged G-Man.

The Shape of Water opens on December 9th.
