The CW Is Developing A “Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina” Series

Now we know why Sabrina Spellman hasn’t made her Riverdale debut.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and producer Greg Bernlanti are adapting Aguirre-Sacasa’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for the network. The comic book series frames the Teenage Witch in a 1960s-style monster movie universe. It features spooky houses, witch covens, swamp hags and other frightful creatures in a tone reminiscent of Hammer horror movies and low-budget drive-in movie productions.
THR’s report indicates the series will find Sabrina “wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.” It also describes the project as a “companion series” to Riverdale, suggesting the two shows may not inhabit the same universe; despite Riverdale‘s flirtation with the supernatural. As it happens, the comic book series takes place in Greendale, keeping Sabrina’s soul-searching and monster fighting a safe distance from Riverdale‘s teen mysteries and murders.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is being eyed for a Fall 2018 debut.
