According to TVLine, a three-minute preview of The CW Seed’s animated Constantine will screen at Warner Bros. Television’s New York Comic Con presentation on Sunday.
Matt Ryan returns as the the title character. He played the role of con man and magician John Constantine in the short-lived 2014 NBC series and returned to the role for a guest spot in the fourth season of Arrow. At the time, it was said Ryan’s return would be a one-off as the character was held in reserve for the Justice League Dark film. Arrow even made a joke about it, suggesting Constantine was stuck in hell. CW Seed announced their plans for an animated Constantine earlier this year.
The official description of the series notes the character’s soul is “already damned to hell,” but “he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent.” As always, Constantine is armed with his wit and a working knowledge of the mystic arts and he “uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong.”
The series will be written by DC Comics veteran J.M. DeMatteis and produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. It is set to debut in 2018. The live-action Constantine is currently available on CW Seed.
