Saïd Taghmaoui Exits FX’s Legion
by Erik Amaya
The third form of the Shadow King calls it quits.
Variety reports actor Saïd Taghmaoui of Wonder Woman fame has left his role as Amahl Farouk, the Shadow King on FX’s mutant saga Legion. The actor was first announced to play the character during Comic-Con International: San Diego back in July. Presumably, Taghmaoui was Farouk’s original form before his body was lost and he inhabited David Haller (Dan Stevens). During the show’s first season, the character manifested as both a Mojo-like figure of terror played by Quinton Boisclair and as David’s friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza). But clearly Farouk had history, either with Oliver Bird (Jemaine Clement) or David’s mysterious father.
The actor mentioned he was leaving via Twitter, writing, “Finally I’m not going to be in Legion but a big surprise coming soon” on Saturday. Variety confirmed his announcement with FX earlier today, but could get no further details on who might replace him, why he left or how much material he shot as Farouk.
The series is set to return in February, continuing the tale of David as he learns more about his mutant abilities and, presumably, his heredity. The first season was a pleasant surprise with each episode feeling claustrophobic while remaining compelling.
