The Return Of A Classic: Gil Kane And Ron Goulart’s Star Hawks Vol.2

by Olly MacNamee

Gil Kane was a Silver Age legend, and it’s thanks to publishers like IDW that his work can be enjoyed by another generation of comic book readers as well as existing fans. And so, IDW will be realising Star Hawks Vol.2 this Wednesday, the 5th of December featuring over 300 strips from his and writer and novelist, Ron Goulart’s daily comic strip that first appeared in The Menomonee Falls Gazette back in 1977 and in it’s original, unique two-tier format meaning Kane could be more flexible and experimental with the layout of each one.

The Library of American Comics edition reproduces each strip on its own page so readers can relish Gil Kane’s incredible achievement. Included are all strips from August 11, 1978-June 10, 1979. Star Hawks takes place in the “Barnum System” that Ron Goulart used in several of his novels.

Here’s your sneak peek ahead of publication:

Star Hawks Vol.2 is out this Wednesday, the 6th of December from IDW.
