A Mobile City Takes In A Meal In First Mortal Engines Teaser

by Erik Amaya

Universal has released a teaser for the upcoming Christian Rivers film, Mortal Engines. It’s initial Howl’s Moving Castle vibe gets dismissed when a quaint mobile village finds itself the prey of a large moving city. Which, when you think about it, is a pretty incredible idea.

Set thousands of years after the end of the civilization — another Hayao Miyazaki echo there —  humanity now roams the dying planet aboard large  mobile cities. One of London’s lower tier citizens, Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar). The pair forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.
Rivers, a long-time member of Peter Jackson’s effects team, makes his feature film directorial debut. The Middle-earth writing partnership of Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philipa Boyens provide the script, based on the book series by Philip Reeve.
Mortal Engines is due for release on December 14th, 2018.
