The Superman prequel series Krypton will reportedly debut this coming March, according to Kryptonsite.
Set two generation before the destruction of Superman’s homeworld, the Syfy series stars Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather, who faces an uphill battle to restore the disgraced House of El and calm unrest across the planet. Along the way, he will face the threat of Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and receive shocking news from a time-displaced Earther named Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos). But will knowledge of Krypton’s future paralyze Seg-El or inspire him?
The series represents the first live-action long form look at Kal-El’s planet of origin. In comics, Krypton has been the setting of two World of Krypton miniseries and famously hosted Starman Jack Knight during his adventures in time and space. Krypton has also been a major setting in two Superman films: 1978’s Superman and 2013’s Man of Steel. On television, select scenes in programs like Supergirl, The Adventures of Superman and Superman: The Animated Series have taken place on Krypton, but the series will attempt to tell a completely original story without the benefit of any of the super-powered heroes born there. Though one imagines Seg-El and Strange will still get into plenty of fights given the tense global situation.
Kyrpton debuts in March.
