Brainiac 5 Gets A Human Makeover In New Supergirl Photo

Some fans of the Legion of Superheroes’ Brainiac 5 were less than thrilled when the first photos of actor Jesse Rath surfaced last year revealing the Supergirl version of the character would have a bluish tint to his skin rather than the traditional green hue. The actor took to his Twitter account to suggest it was more of a turquoise complexion — which is true on certain HD feeds of his episodes — and jokingly compared the online controversy to an earlier meme about a gold dress. The whole exchange endeared Rath to many and his performance as the character proved successful, even if some still long for him to look like his comic book counterpart.
And it seems a change is coming.
Fans of the program spotted this photo from an upcoming episode featuring Rath in essentially no makeup. The actor’s real face, devoid of the three-dot motif on his forehead and the turquoise hue, is on display as he and Wynn (Jeremy Jordon) appear to be explaining something to Supergirl and the rest of the team:

The episode will air on April 30th and feature Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Imra (Amy Jackson) teaming up to deal with Pestilence after other members of the team are injured. But the real story for LOSH fans has to be the change in Brainy’s look. Are the Legionnaires going public? Considering the presence of aliens on Earth-36, that doesn’t seem like motivation enough for Brainy to go with a more human visage. Maybe like Mon-El’s (Chris Wood) costume change, Brainy will be going for a more traditional look in the weeks to come. And if nothing else, it prove Rath himself strikes a very Brainy-esque profile when not caked under makeup and a fright wig.
Supergirl airs Mondays on The CW.
