It’s 4/20 And ‘Reefer Madness’ Is Here To Stay – Preview Craig Yoe’s New Collection

by Hannah Means Shannon

It’s 4/20 today, the “high” holy day for pot, and Dark Horse have released multiple Eisner-Award-winning editor and designer Craig Yoe’s new collection of  “wacky, wild, and culturally relevant comics” about the “dangers” of marijuana in Reefer Madness.

These are newly collected comics from the 1930’s to the 1950’s and beyond, created when hysteria surrounded marijuana and its effects on the youth of America. Reefer Madness collects short stories such as “Satan’s Cigarettes”; “Hopped-Up Killer”; “Teenage Dope Slaves”; “We Can Stop The Enemies of Youth”; “My Scandalous Affair!”; “Dope Menace”; “Holiday of Horror!”, “Hooked!” and many more, often by quite well known creators.
Craig Yoe says:

This is one of the most fun books I’ve ever put together. Some of the writers and artists that created these comics must have been smoking something to concoct these ludicrous and loony tales of youth gone bad! The comics will serve up lots of lusty laughs for those who partake of contraband ‘giggle-smoke.’ Others attempting to snuff out the wicked marijuana cigarettes that they are sure to unleash unbridled passions will see these comics as moral tales of dire warning!
