Are Fortune Cookies The New Cash Cow In Animal Crossing Pocket Camp?

Since it’s origin in November, I have gushed about how fantastic Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp was, and one of the reasons I did so was because I hadn’t spent any money on it. For a game from Nintendo that was so adorable and didn’t really require participating in the micro-transaction aspect, was awesome. That was, until the latest update.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I understand that many fans of the game have probably been buying bucket loads of leaf tickets since day one. It does make the game move faster and it is easy to spend them. However, this is the first time that I’ve felt like it is absolutely necessary to do so in order to unlock items. I’m talking up the fortune cookies.

The fortune cookies cost 50 leaf tickets a pop and when you buy one, you unlock a random item in a collection. (Items can be duplicate.) Is it just me, or is that a lot of tickets per cookie? At first I thought, “Well, the items I get will probably be fantastic.” Then I received a tiny hat…I wasn’t too happy after just spending 50 leaf tickets. Because I didn’t have a huge reserve of tickets, I felt a very strong impulse to buy more! See what I’m saying?

So, while I think the update is a cute addiction I wonder if the good old days of not spending money to enjoy this game are over. What do you think?
