Sarah Graley’s Kim Reaper Returns In Total Goth Cuteness With Vampire Island
by Richard Bruton
Sarah Graley is a UK-based comic artist, whose work I’ve enjoyed for quite a few years now, with her self-published Our Super Adventure and the Pizza Witch webcomic. But it’s the Oni Press published Kim Reaper that’s been her finest work to date.
In the first series, we met poor art student Becka, desperately infatuated with her classmate, the impossibly cool Kim. So far, so cute… but in Kim Reaper, things get complicated when Becka discovers Kim’s part-time gig…as a grim reaper.
The comic is wonderfully, adorably quirky fun, and in September, Graley brings the characters back in the pages of the new series Kim Reaper: Vampire Island.
Oni Press have this to say about the new series:
Kim and Becka are back and dealing with the troubles of supernatural dating in Kim Reaper: Vampire Island! College relationships are tough for everyone, but they’re EXTRA hard for Kim. Her grumpy grim reaper bosses are always mad at her, her girlfriend Becka’s roommate keeps hanging around, and now everybody is super into vampires for some reason! And she accidentally let slip that she knew about an island full of them?! Oops, better pack up your scythe—we’re all going on a really weird date!
As part of the build-up to the new series, Oni Press are making the first Kim Reaper series, Grim Beginnings, available for free online at www.kimreapercomic.com! So there’s no excuse to miss out on all the grim reaping hijinks!
Kim Reaper: Vampire Island launches in September from Oni Press, and features an alternate cover by the brilliant Katy Farina (Steven Universe).
