Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Joins HBO’s Watchmen
by Erik Amaya
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has found another DC universe to inhabit.
Entertainment Weekly reports the actor, who will also be seen as Black Manta in December’s Aquaman, will appear in Damon Lindelof’s pilot for an HBO series based on Watchmen. As with recently announced cast members Tim Mison, Frances Fisher and Jacob Ming-Trent, the role he will be playing is undisclosed.
The site also reports The Alienist‘s Sara Vickers also joined the cast.
The series will not adapt the original Watchmen comic by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, but remix its ideas in a contemporary setting while also accepting the events of the comic book happened. Which, if Lindelof is being honest with that description, means it is set 30 years after Ozymandias tricked the world into peace. Or, depending on how you read the comic’s last page, 30 years after the peace was shattered by Rorschach’s journal.
While some of the book’s characters may appear, the majority of the cast will be playing entirely new characters imagined by Lindelof and his team.
