First Look: Jodorowsky’s Film Gets A Graphic Novel Sequel In The Sons Of El Topo
by Hannah Means Shannon
This morning we have a special First Look at an exciting new hardcover graphic novel coming up from the Archaia imprint at Boom! Studios in a sequel to the 1970’s film El Topo in The Sons of El Topo Volume One: Cain.
The book is being written by legendary filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (Dune) and illustrated by José Ladrönn (Incredible Hulk) and continues the 1970 “Mexican Acid Western film” which was originally written, scored, directed and starred in by Alejandro Jodorowsky himself.
This sequel will arrive in stores December 2018, and it tells the story of El Topo, who is a bandit “without limits” and a man “with no moral compass”. When his journey through the arid west brings him face to face with a series of “rogue outcasts”, he finds enlightenment and is forever transformed, becoming a “holy vessel imbued with the power to perform miracles”. This was a journey that took him far from his first born son, Cain, and brought about the birth of Abel.
Driven by resentment, and unable to kill his saintly father, Cain begins the slow pursuit of his half-brother in a “tale of magic and mayhem”. The new graphic novel features a cover by José Ladrönn.
Sierra Hahn, Executive Editor, Boom! Studios, says:
Cult-classic filmmaker Jodorowsky and collaborator Ladrönn weave an intense and darkly rich tale of magic, loss, and unforgettable pain in this often surreal, sometimes brutal story of revenge and (we hope) eventual redemption.
Print copies of The Sons of El Topo Volume One: Cain will be available for sale in December 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), at bookstores or at the Boom! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the Boom! Studios app.
