After the runaway success of this year’s freshman show, The Portsmouth Comic Con, organisers aren’t letting the grass grow under their feet. Announced as the first comic book pros at next year’s show are Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart whose legacy looms large across comic book history.
Thomas arrived at Marvel in 1965 and was to rise in the ranks at Marvel’s and was responsible for titles such as Star Wars, Conan The Barbarian and writer on dozens of books including Uncanny X-Men, Avengers (writing it for an impressive 6 years) and Iron Fist before moving to DC and resurrecting many of their Silver Age characters through titles such as All Star Comics/The Justice Society of America and later, one of my personal favourites, The All-Star Squadron.
Working with Thomas at Marvel was Steve Englehart, who was responsible for writing such critically acclaimed runs on comics like Captain America, as well as writing a much loved run on Detective Comics for DC too. Having them both in one con is something of a coup and will, no doubt, appeal to many reading this here and now.
Tripwire and con organiser, Joel Meadows was more than thrilled at the prospect of these two titans of the comic industry joining Porstmouth next year:
We are so excited to have secured Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart as the first announced comic guests for Portsmouth Comic Con 2019. Neither has attended a UK con in such a long time, so it is a real coup that they will be attending ours. These are just the first of many fantastic guests to be unveiled. Keep an eye on Portsmouth Comic Con and Tripwire websites for more to come.
Full steam ahead!
