You Had a Tough Time In High School? Cthu-Louise Has You Beat
by James Ferguson
High school is rarely a treat, but it can be way tougher if you’ve got a squid face. We’ll find out just how hard that life can be with Black Hammer: Cthu-Louise, coming in December from Dark Horse Comics. Written by Jeff Lemire, illustrated by Emi Lenox, colored by Dave Stewart, and lettered by Todd Klein, this new adventure follows a teenage girl who happens to be spawned by the emissary of a Cthulhu god.
Black Hammer: Cthu-Louise follows the teen as she struggles through school. She’s teased because of her monstrous appearance until she gets fed up with the bullying and abuse. That’s when she decides she’s willing to do anything to make herself “normal.” Dark Horse describes it as “Carrie meets Call of the Cthulhu.”
More Black Hammer is good Black Hammer so I’m all in for this. Writer Jeff Lemire has been firing on all cylinders with this series as a whole. None of the various tie-ins and mini-series have fallen flat and this one looks to be no different.
Black Hammer: Cthu-Louise is due out on December 12th, 2018. It will feature covers by Emi Lenox and Jill Thompson.
