Boom! Studios has released a First Look at the interior art on the return of the fan-favorite series The Empty Man from Cullen Bunn (Bone Parish, Harrow County) joined by artist Jesús Hervás (Lucas Stand, Clive Barker’s Hellraiser) in November 2018.
The series originally debuted in 2014 from Bunn and Eisner Award-nominated artist Vanesa R. Del Rey (Redlands), introducing us to a world where a “terrifying disease has taken on almost deific connotations”. The illness has unknown causes, and terrifying symptoms that culminates in catatonia, an “empty” state. Investigated by the FBI as cults rise across the country, the original story of epidemic led to a feature film adaptation currently in production at 20th Century Fox.
In the new storyline, we’ll find the nation is still in the grips of the Empty Man pandemic. Government quarantines are mandatory, and afflicted woman Melissa Kerry faces quarantine knowing those people are never seen again. Her family hide her instead as her symptoms worsen to horrifying proportions.
Eric Harburn, Senior Editor at Boom! Studios says:
