NYCC 2018: The Boys Teaser Released; Simon Pegg Joins the Cast

by Erik Amaya

Amazon has released its first teaser for The Boys, their adaptation of the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson.

Of course, it’s more of a promo for Vought and the Seven than The Boys themselves. But the real protagonists of the show make their presence known in the best possible way — flipping off the viewer. Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Laz Alonso and Tomer Capon play a team of vigilantes who take it upon themselves to deal with the more hedonistic members of the superhero community when their tendencies get out of line. But some The Boys have a more personal stake in their job. Perhaps too personal.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter notes Simon Pegg has joined the program as Wee Hughie’s (Quaid) dad. Pegg was the visual inspiration for Hughie back in the comic book and the actor was always willing to play Hughie when the notion of a Boys film or TV series was first floated. But it gives you a really good idea how long these ideas take to develop if Pegg aged out of the role and ended up cast as Hughie Sr.
The Boys will debut on Amazon sometime in 2019.
