Making A Super-Soldier In Bloodshot: Rising Spirit #1 Early Preview
by James Ferguson
Bloodshot is one of the most iconic characters from Valiant Entertainment and his past has been a bit murky. Next month, the publisher will further explore his origins with Bloodshot: Rising Spirit. The series looks at the early days of the private military contractor Project Rising Spirit as they work on their most violent and valuable asset. An enterprising team of scientists works to make sure Bloodshot did what he was told, but memory is a tricky thing. The man Bloodshot used to be won’t let go of his past so easily.
Bloodshot: Rising Spirit is based on a story from Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson and written by Kevin Grevioux. It’s illustrated by Ken Lashley, inked by Ryan Winn, and colored by Diego Rodriguez, with letters by Simon Bowland.
Writer Kevin Grevioux told Inverse in an interview:
One of the things I don’t like is when writers come in and say, ‘Everything you thought you knew before was wrong, I think that’s a slap in the face to both the creator and to longtime fans who’ve been with the character since inception. However, I do think you can enhance and add layers to the history without disturbing the essence of who the character is and what makes him tick. And that’s what we’ll be doing with Rising Spirit.
Bloodshot: Rising Spirit #1 features covers by Felipe Massafera, David Mack, Staz Johnson, and Doug Braithwaite. There will also be an ultra-limited Glass Variant where Braithwaite’s artwork will be printed with a special multi-colored process on a solid pane of glass. Finally, if you pre-order the first eight issues by the final order cutoff date of October 22nd, you’ll get trade paperback-style extras, bonus content, and exclusive covers by Ken Lashley for no additional cost.
Look for Bloodshot: Rising Spirit #1 at your local comic shop on November 14th, 2018.
