Dr. Mirage In Line To Become CW Drama

Valiant Entertainment’s Dr. Mirage may soon join the superheroes of The CW.
Deadline reports the network is developing a series based on the recent The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage by Jen Van Meter and Roberto De La Torre. The series will follow paranormal investigator Doctor Shan Fong-Mirage, a woman who who can communicate with the souls of the dead. Her ability serves her well, except there is one soul she cannot find — her husband Hwen Mirage; Valiant’s original Doctor Mirage. The comic book took Shan on a trip through Hell to find Hwen, but one imagines the series will see her using her paranormal ability to aid the local police or something.
Which isn’t the worst way to turn Dr. Mirage into a weekly series. In fact, it would make it a really good fit on The CW. Of course, the network could also support a direct adaptation of The Death-Defying Doctor Mirage as well. Laurie McCarthy, one of the creators of the former CW period drama Reign is writing a pilot based on an earlier attempt to bring Doctor Mirage to the network by Annabelle‘s Gary Dauberman. Hopefully, it will balance what made Van Meter and De La Torre’s reinvention of Doctor Mirage so interesting.
Currently, the deal only extends to to a pilot script, but we’ll keep an eye on this as The CW will soon have an open slot for a supernatural series based on a comic book. iZombie, the network’s current program in that vein, will debut its final season in 2019.
