Taking Back The Fight With Freedom Fighters #2

by Josh Davison

[*Mild Spoilers Ahead!]
The Freedom Fighters have returned, and none too soon! The team has attacked a Nazi museum, and the Nazis have responded by sending a giant robot to kill the Freedom Fighters. Thankfully, this crew has already got a good grasp on teamwork, and the bystanders are in awe of the new heroes before them. They hope that this means that the age of heroes is back, but the Nazis aren’t going to allow this slight to go unanswered.

Freedom Fighters #2 continues the non-stop adrenaline rush of the first issue with a massive super-powered battle between our heroes, a giant robot, and Nazi soldiers.
We get to see how this team works together and some of the personalities on the team.
A focus is put on optics and the hope that the Freedom Fighters can inspire in people. It really dives into old-fashioned patriotism, which is what the Freedom Fighters have always been about–a little obvious with literal Uncle Sam on the team, I know.
I can dig that, though, especially when the villain is as vile as actual Nazis. I love Captain America, and I love the Freedom Fighters. If you can get down with this particular kind of flag-waving patriotism, then you will be able to enjoy this Freedom Fighters revival.

Eddy Barrows continues to dazzle with the same showing that made Detective Comics one of the best-looking comics on the shelf when he worked on it. The action is high-impact, the heroes are look legendary, and the detailing is impeccable. Eber Ferreira provides excellent inkwork, and Adriano Lucas kills it on the colors.
Freedom Fighters #2 is a no-quarter warzone, with the new team taking its first major stand against the Ratzis. It’s bloody, brutal, and one hell of a time all around. This one definitely earns a recommendation. Give it a read.
Freedom Fighters #2 comes to us from writer Robert Venditti, artist Eddy Barrows, inker Eber Ferreira, color artist Adriano Lucas, letterer Deron Bennett, and cover artist Barrows, with Ferreira and Lucas.
