Rachel Skarsten Joins Batwoman As Alice

If you were wondering just how much The CW’s Batwoman would adapt from its source material, one of Kate Kane’s key opponents, Alice, will appear in the pilot.
Deadline reports Rachel Skarsten will play the character. Described as “the leader of her Lewis Carroll–inspired Wonderland Gang,” she swings “unpredictably between maniacal and charming” as she continues a quest to undermine Gotham City’s sense of security. But if you’ve read the early Batwoman tales by Greg Rucka and J.H. Williams — or the Batwoman series Williams did with co-writer W. Haden Black — you know Alice has a surprising connection to Kate (to be played by Ruby Rose in the pilot and potential series).
Skarsten is no stranger to genre shows, thanks to a multi-season stint on Lost Girl, or even to the DC Universe. She played Dinah Lance on The WB’s short-lived Birds of Prey; which saw her character remixed into a psychic working alongside Barbara Gordon (Dina Meyer) and Helena Wayne (Ashley Scott).
At the moment, Batwoman is still only a pilot project, though many assume its series pickup is all but assured. If The CW adds it to their lineup of DC hero shows, expected it for 2020. In the meantime, Ruby Rose and Batwoman will no doubt appear in next fall’s CW crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”
